La Distillerie de Provence, the art of artisanal distillation

For over a century, our distillery has endeavoured to capture the soul of Provence in every one of its creations, whether it's our emblematic aniseed-flavoured aperitif, pastis grand cru Henri Bardouin, or our traditional gin, gin XII, or one of our exceptional liqueurs... Distillation is more than just a craft, it's a true art passed down from generation to generation.

The history and expertise of our craft distillery

Founded in 1898, Distilleries et Domaines de Provence has preserved the traditional methods that have made its spirits so famous over the years. Each bottle tells a story, the story of authentic know-how, carefully cultivated in the heart of Forcalquier, a picturesque village perched on the heights of Haute Provence. Here, every ingredient is chosen with care, and every process is mastered to ensure impeccable quality.

Craft production : a commitment to quality

The production of our spirits is based on traditional distillation techniques, inherited from a long Provençal tradition. Wild thyme, verbena and wormwood are just some of the many emblematic plants we use to make our liqueurs. Harvested by hand and distilled using ancestral methods, these plants embody the spirit of the Provençal garrigue in each extract.

Provençal aperitifs : a celebrated tradition

Provençal aperitifs occupy a central place in local culture, marking the start of convivial, shared moments. At Distillerie de Provence, we offer a selection of aperitifs that embody the essence of the region. Rinquinquin, the emblematic peach wine, offers a fruity sweetness that evokes the orchards of Provence. Noix de la Saint Jean, our walnut wine, with its warm, spicy notes, is ideal for an autumn aperitif. Vermouth, a herbal wine with complex aromas, and Orange Colombo, an orange wine, add a refined touch to your moments of relaxation. Finally, Gentiane de Lure, a slightly bitter gentian wine , embodies the robustness of the mountains of Provence.

Artisanal gin : wild provence in a bottle

Our artisan gin, Gin XII, is a veritable ode to Provençal botany. Made from 12 plants, including juniper, thyme and other essences from the garrigue, this gin captures the wild, aromatic spirit of the region. Whether for refined cocktails or pure tasting, Gin XII stands out for its balanced aromas and freshness. It represents the excellence of Provençal gin, celebrating the craftsmanship of our distillery in Provence.

Provençal liqueurs : a heritage of authentic flavours

Distillerie de Provence's liqueurs are carefully distilled treasures, each evoking a unique aspect of Provence. Farigoule, our thyme liqueur, is an explosion of herbal flavours, perfect for sipping after a meal. Génépi des Alpes and Douce Liqueur are subtle, well-balanced expressions of local plants, offering an enchanting sweetness. Elisir Roux, meanwhile, is a liqueur with complex, refined notes, perfect for lovers of rich, spicy flavours.

Distilled eaux-de-vie and spirits : the art of tradition

Distillation is an ancient art, and at Distillerie de Provence, we perpetuate this heritage with authentic spirits. Marc de Provence, made from the region's finest grapes, is a robust eau-de-vie full of character. Our Absinthe ‘Absente’ is a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional absinthe, offering an intense sensory experience. Each spirit in our range is the result of meticulous craftsmanship, inspired by the terroir of Provence.

The 4 main stages of production

The traditional production of each of our spirits is based on 4 key moments, orchestrated with passion.

Sébastien, the master picker, in harmony with nature, chooses the precise moment to harvest the plants, capturing their essence at the peak of their potential.

Lucie, master macerator, keeps a close eye on the vats during maceration, harmonising the aromas with meticulous precision.

Yves, the master distiller, with his unrivalled expertise, adjusts the temperature to extract the perfect distillate, revealing subtle, refined notes.

Finally, Hélène, the master liqueur-maker, combines, blends and tests new recipes, always with the same desire to create exceptional products. Then comes the moment of contemplation and finesse, when she assesses the final nectar to guarantee consistent quality and the same level of excellence for each product.

These meticulous steps ensure that each creation is a work of art, imbued with history and passion.

125 years of history and expertise

Founded in 1898 in Forcalquier, the Distillerie de Lure, which became Distilleries et Domaines de Provence in 1974 under the management of Alain Robert, has its roots in a thousand-year-old tradition of peddlers and herbalists. Located in a region with a unique climate, rich in plant species, it has preserved and developed this know-how to create emblematic spirits such as Farigoule and Gentiane de Lure.

Today, this Provençal heritage is successfully exported to over 80 countries, bearing witness to the excellence and universality of its spirits.
